NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Margaret Good in her campaign to represent Florida’s 16th Congressional District and unseat anti-choice Republican Rep. Vern Buchanan. Good currently serves as a state representative for Florida’s 72nd legislative district and is seeking to flip a congressional seat that has been held by Republicans for two decades.
“Margaret Good has a clear track record of standing up and fighting for Floridians’ reproductive freedom,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “With so much at stake for women and families in 2020, NARAL is proud to endorse Representative Good so she can continue this fight in Washington and work to ensure that women can make their own personal decisions about pregnancy, free from interference by politicians like Vern Buchanan.”
“All across the country women’s reproductive rights are under attack and it’s becoming harder and harder for women to access the healthcare they need,” said Representative Good. “I’m proud to stand with NARAL and its 2.5 million members in the fight to protect women’s access to reproductive healthcare.”
Good was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in February 2018 after defeating anti-choice Republican James Buchanan, son of Vern Buchanan, flipping a red seat blue. She was re-elected later that year.
Republican incumbent Vern Buchanan has consistently earned a 0% score from NARAL Pro-Choice America. His record includes votes in support of banning health coverage for abortion care, defunding Planned Parenthood, and rescinding Title X protections, which provide millions of low-income individuals with access to affordable family planning services.
